Bees may not always come to mind when thinking of autumn, but honeybees are still very busy, gathering food to keep them going as they shelter through the cold winter months. In late summer/early autumn, larger-bodied worker bees are produced which will live for 4-6 months. Their job is to protect the Queen and keep her warm until the following spring. And newly mated Queen Bumblebees will also be eating as much nectar and pollen as they can in order to take them through their winter hibernation. Then in the spring, they emerge from their winter rest, find a new site to set up a hive, and get to work laying eggs and gathering food. Buff-tailed Bumblebees might even continue their work all the way through the winter if the conditions are mild enough. They are such fascinating creatures and so sorely underestimated and under-appreciated.
So, this is why I have included bees in my Colours of Autumn collections.
This pair of earrings, in warming rose gold and green, features beautifully detailed bees, with gemstone and Rose Gold Filled and Rose Gold Vermeil metal beads suspended below. Wear these earrings on their own to make a minimalist statement, or as part of a curated ensemble of matching and co-ordinating pieces.
The gemstones are Sunstone, which has a lovely rose gold/orange kind of hue, with lots of sparkle thanks to the metal platelet inclusions (hence their name) and Peridot in a nice fresh green colour.
These earrings would make a great gift for nature lovers and apiarists.
They will be supplied in a gift box.
